Eternity

Oil on Canvas, 24"x36", 2017

Eternity is a the last of a series of three paintings, illustrating the end of the believer’s life. On Earth, we as believers are here to work, as a farmer sows. Once everything God has placed us on Earth to accomplish is complete, He allows us to pass from this life to the next. Death, to many, is something to fear, but for the believer, it is something to look forward to. We know that death does not reach us, as we have accepted the gift of eternal life. The death of our physical body is the exit through which we enter a new life, free of the limitations of our sinful, earthly body and now clothed in our glorified bodies which God has been preparing for us since the beginning of time.

Just as the farmer reaps his harvest, the death of our body signifies completion of our work on earth, enabling us to reap our eternal reward and live in the presence of God forever. “‘Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?’ The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ'' (1 Corinthians 15:55-57). Eternity represents the moment following physical death, when we, like woman in this painting, finally meet He who has granted us this victory, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
