"Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done."

~Jesus's prayer in Luke 22:42

Your Will portrays the surrender of my will to God’s. This self-portrait captures a hard conversation with the Lord, as I lay down my desires before Him. Though it is many times a struggle, when I finally surrender, I am free (John 8:32b).

In this depiction, I have surrendered and therefore, I am weightless. Echoing Jesus's words, "My yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:30), believers need not strive for a good life, but instead need only lay down and yield to what God has already done and wants to do (Psalm 46:10a).

As I stand face to face with Jesus, our hearts align, and I see Him for who He truly is.

In these moments, His reminders of love and deep care for my life make trusting His will a simple act.

During His night-long prayer just prior to His crucifixion, Jesus exemplifies the utmost surrender. When foreseeing the impending torture, he asks God if it can be avoided. Ultimately, he surrenders His own will, stating, "...not my will, but yours be done" (Luke 22:42). Despite willingly enduring the crucifixion, it was ultimately God's plan that resulted in the salvation of the world.
